Connecticut consumers who need to choose a health plan for 2009 can now find the new comparison guide to health insurers on the Connecticut Insurance Department’s website.

The guide, “Managed Care Organizations in Connecticut,” is also available by writing to the department at P.O. Box 816, Hartford, CT 06142-0816.

The annual guide on HMOs (health maintenance organizations) and PPOs (preferred provider plans) includes data on frequency of denials, results of member satisfaction surveys and appeals and appeal outcomes. There is also data for each company on quality measures, such as what percentage of heart attack victims got beta blocker drugs and what percentage of women aged 40 to 69 received mammograms.
